Aura Group appoints new CRE Portfolio Manager and Head of Risk and Compliance

Shaun Fernando has been recruited as a Portfolio Manager for the Aura Property Credit Fund and Nathan Harris as Head of Risk and Compliance.



Aura Funds Management has recruited former Challenger Investment Partners operative, Shaun Fernando, as a director of Aura Group and Portfolio Manager for Aura Property Credit Fund.

Mr Fernando, who left Challenger late last year, will be in charge of the real estate credit strategy in Australia.

Mr Fernando was an associate director at Challenger within real estate debt responsible for originating, structuring and distributing debt products. Prior to Challenger, Mr Fernando was a manager at Gresham Property for over 5 years and has over 12 years of finance management experience for large groups including GE Capital, Nestle and KPMG.

Aura Group’s appointment of Mr Fernando followed shortly after its Aura Property Credit Fund reached its four-year anniversary The Fund has delivered returns of 8.14% in the last 12 months or 43.57% since inception.*

The Aura Property Credit Fund was established with a mission to provide Australian corporates with an alternative funding solution to avoid the inefficiencies in the traditional real estate credit markets driven by structural, legal and regulatory factors. The strategy of the evergreen fund is to build a portfolio of short to medium-term first mortgage loan investments secured against Australian real property.

Aura has also hired a former executive of Nikko Asset Management Nathan Harris as Head of Risk and Compliance. As the head of compliance at Nikko, Harris was responsible for leading the business and investment compliance team in Australia and New Zealand.

Harris has over 20 years’ of experience in risk and compliance including a recent stint at Xplore Wealth.
